Workstations and Wi-Fi
Access via LAN cable
As an OVGU member, you have access to the university network through provided green LAN ports. To use this access, please follow these steps:
- Connect the green LAN cable to your notebook. For the connection, you need to set your notebook to automatically obtain the IP address (DHCP) and the DNS server address.
- Start a browser. The authentication page will be displayed automatically.
- Authenticate using your personal OVGU account.
- “Login o.k.”: The connection to the university data network has been established

Access via Wi-Fi
In the University Library you have, as an OVGU member, access to Wi-Fi. Select the network “OvGU-802.1X” and sign in using your OVGU account.
Members of other institutions that participate in the eduroam federation can sign in via the “eduroam” network using the access data of their institution (e.g., user name@ovgu.de).
External users receive time-limited WLAN access via the “otto hotspot” offered by the City of Magdeburg. The service provider is “Magdeburg-City-Com GmbH (MDCC)”. To work in the OVGU network, please use the user PCs in the University Library.

Registration at the user PC
On all floors of the library, you will find PCs that can be used by registered users of the library. For login, use your personal OVGU account. As an external user, you will receive your personal login credentials at registration.
You can save your data to a USB stick or to your personal network drive.
The following software is available on the computers:
- Image editing software
- Web browsers
- LaTeX software
- Statistical software R (quick guide)
- Windows 10
OVGU employees and students can additionally access the following software:
- Numerical software MathWorks MATLAB 2020a
- Office software
- Statistical software IBM SPSS
