Submission of Dissertations / Habilitation Theses

For publications within the framework of doctoral and postdoctoral procedures, please observe the (German) regulations for the submission of depositary copies (a courtesy translation is available here).

In case of electronic publishing, please submit the completed and signed original deposit license (German,  a courtesy translation can be found here) to us. With this you grant the University Library the nonexclusive right to publish your thesis in the repository Share_it.

Please ensure that the electronic version of your thesis does not contain any personal data (CV, acknowledgements).

FAQ for the publication of dissertation or habilitation theses

 

What regulations must be observed when submitting deposit copies of theses?

 

Dissertation and habilitation theses are independent publications and must be made available to the academic public. This can be done in various ways. The current regulations for the submission of deposit copies at the University Library can be found here. In addition, the respective doctoral and habilitation regulations of the faculties apply.

How long are the submission deadlines for theses?

 

The submission deadlines or submission periods of your faculty can be found in the respective doctoral and habilitation regulations of the faculties.

What kinds of deposit copies are accepted?

 

You can find the current regulations for the submission of deposit copies at the University Library here.

 

The following submission options are possible:

 

Electronic publication

  • Submission of the electronic version for publication in the repository of the university libraries of Saxony-Anhalt Share_it.
  • Submission of one printed copy
  • The printed version must be identical in form and content to the electronic version.
     

Publisher publication

  • Submission of two printed copies of the publisher's version
  • The content and scope of the publisher's version must correspond to the approved version of the thesis.
  • Submission of the publishing contract (commercial publisher) and distribution of the print version and/or the e-book via the book trade.
  • The publication must have an ISBN and be registered with the German National Library.
  • The commercial publisher is responsible for sending two deposit copies of the publisher's publication to the German National Library.
     

Journal publication

  • Submission of two printed copies of the approved version of the thesis
  • The thesis must be published once or in several volumes of a journal or consist of individual journal articles and correspond to the approved version of the thesis in terms of content and scope.
  • If a cumulative academic publication is published, the individual contributions should be included in full.
  • If a secondary publication of a contribution is not possible for legal reasons, it could be replaced with the bibliographic details of the contribution including DOI link to the publisher's version and/or abstract. The responsible faculty will decide whether this is possible.
  • The commercial publisher is responsible for sending two deposit copies of the publisher's publication to the German National Library.
