UBfind – the library’s own search engine

UBfind is a so-called discovery service provided by the university library. Search engines are effective for researching library-related contents.

Such services bear great potential since they connect library catalogues with modern research technologies. Relevant library catalogues can be combined within aggregated indices as long as the right to use is granted. Those indices offer result lists ordered by relevance. Modern interfaces allow an intuitional use.

Since 1 March 2016, a thoroughly revised version of the UBfind interface is on hand: UBfind now is faster, clearer and compatible with any size of screen. The index on which it is based, GBV Zentral (findex.gbv.de), currently features more than 155 million records. You can search within the following:

  • The stock of the university library,
  • The stocks of more than 400 libraries located in Northern and Central Germany,
  • The stock of the library Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz,
  • More than 57 million printed articles (Online Contents und Directory of Open Access Journals),
  • More than 23 million nationally licensed items and entries,
  • More than 40 million electronic resources (eBooks, eArticle, eJournals).

Upgrading the index will be one of our main tasks in the future.
